The populace was 3,945 at the 2010 census, up from 2,998 in 2000. The larger "Rigby area" includes such outlying unincorporated communities as Annis, Garfield, Grant, Labelle, and Clark.

Rigby is part of the Idaho Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area, and is positioned directly between the two larger Idaho metros/cities of Idaho Falls and Rexburg, providing its inhabitants with a wide range of shopping, entertainment and cultural choices.

Many Rigby people commute to jobs in Rexburg or Idaho Falls, and a number of inhabitants work for the federal government or federal contractors through the Idaho National Laboratory (INL), locally called "The Site".

According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 2.36 square miles (6.11 km2), of which, 2.35 square miles (6.09 km2) is territory and 0.01 square miles (0.03 km2) is water. A momentous majority of Rigby's residents, as well as those of the outlying communities, are members of the LDS faith.

As of the census of 2010, there were 3,945 citizens , 1,328 homeholds, and 994 families residing in the city.

Rigby High School is the only high school inside the city.

Farnsworth Elementary, Midway Elementary, South Fork Elementary, Jefferson Elementary, and Harwood Elementary; and Rigby Middle School, and Rigby High School.

The schools are affiliated with the Jefferson County School District.

These schools also serve inhabitants from neighboring areas such as Menan, Lewisville and Roberts, Idaho.

Rigby is most famous for being the "birthplace of television", a title the town/city can attribute to a high school student titled Philo Taylor Farnsworth.

Original tubes from Farnsworth's early experiments were on display at the Rigby High School for many years.

They are now held by the Jefferson County Museum in Rigby.

Wilson is a 1956 graduate of Rigby High School and played college football at Utah in Salt Lake City.

He attended and graduated from Rigby High School.
